Using Pro-Active C Against Brown House Moths

If treating for a Moth infestation in a carpet you will need to vacuum the carpet thoroughly, then, using the Pro-Active C, which is a water-based, odourless Insecticide, spray all around the outside edges of the carpet (about 50cms into the centre of the room). If you can, pull the edge of the carpet back and spray the back of the carpet too, but if this is not practical for you, then ensure, when spraying, you concentrate the spray so some seeps between the skirting board and the carpet. Also spray underneath any furniture.

You do not need to saturate the carpet, just moisten it. Once you have finished the treatment, if you can, open the window slightly to ventilate the room, close the door behind you and do not re-enter the room until the product is dry (usually about 4 hours).

The Pro-Active C will need to be reapplied 30 days after the initial treatment. We recommend that you do not vacuum where you have sprayed until immediately before the 2nd application, 30 days later.

Using Pro-Active Dust Against Brown House Moth

For those with concerns over using Insecticides in the home the Pro-Active Diatomaceous Earth is a totally non-toxic way of dealing with the Moth problem. This is a desiccant dust that works by spearing the exterior of the insect, meaning they cannot retain water and will dehydrate resulting in death.

This product can be used anywhere as it's so safe, but is not overly practical on carpets, mainly for aesthetic reasons. It works best in areas out of sight, such as underneath beds and furniture and providing it stays put, will only need applying once.

The container is 'pepper pot' like in that it has holes in the top that you use to apply the dust. Simply sprinkle the dust anywhere that you know the Moth/Larvae/Eggs are prevalent and leave it alone for at least 60 days.

Once you feel that the Moth have been dealt with, remove the Diatomaceous Earth with a vacuum or dustpan and brush. If the area is such that the dust will not cause you any concern i.e. under floor boards, in the loft etc there is no need to remove the product as it is so safe. It can remain there as on-going protection.
